Fishing Rod Rebuild

Wanted to try my hand at Rebuilding an old fishing rod. I stipped off the old guides, cleaned blank, bought a few new Fuji Guides to replace some of the damaged ones.
Did a bunch of research on wrapping techniques, found a color scheme that I liked "wink, wink". This is the first time I try wrapping. Let me know what you all think. I will post some more pics when I get a chance to work on it some more. |

That looks nice man. Never thought about rebuilding a rod before. Looks like something I would enjoy. I like working on my equipment myself. Cant wait to see future progress.

Exellent job Dude and I ma diggin' the Purple and Gold, I picked up some black and gold at Cabellas but aint used it yet. There are some excellent kits for this to be had on line. I inherited mine from my Dad. It's in a lil aluminum tool box and has a gig ya mount to atable. It holds tension on ya thread spool for ya and makes wrapping alots easier. I also recommend a bottle of clear thread sealer also found on line it really preserves ya colors well. I get home in a week and if I can find this post again I'll add pictures.

Thanks for all the comments guys, it really is enjoyable to do. Its amazing the information that is on the web on how too's. I just took a cardboard box and cut it up to make a rod holder. Then I used a coffee mug to put the spool of thread in and ran the thread thru a thick Novel so that the thread would keep tention.
I can't wait to finish it. I will post more pics as the project progresses. |
If you get to Houston, go to Fishjng Tackle Unlimited. That place has everything for building and rebuilding, it had me breathing funny and I haven't even started building yet!

What did you clean the old expoxy off with?

Hey MREX, I removed the old epoxy with a razor blade. There are some really good tutorials on youtube to do this. the trick is to be really careful not to knick the blank with the razor. Once I got it off I used a rag and some alcohol and wiped it down real good. I haven't had time to do much more to my project, I still have 3 more eyes to wrap on and then re-epoxy. As soon as I get time I will post some pics of what I finish up with. thx
