Marine Electronics

I am about to buy my 1st boat and have no experience whatsoever with GPS. I'm looking for some suggestions on a user friendly/ boat GPS for dummies. Do not care about cost, I just need something i can learn to use, thanks.

I'm in the same boat. I'm going with the lowrance hds 7 touch.

I have used the recent models of lowrance and garmin. I definately prefer the coastal maps on the garmin. Reefs are much more accurate and defined on the garmin compared to the lowrance.

Garmin 546S. Very user friendly.

Father in law had a ray marine and took it out to put a Garmin. Now we both have the same set up.

Also, I personally prefer a non-touch screen. The screen wont get dirty if your hands are, and they are a little easier to use. IMO

Garmin simple like the iphone----- lowrance requires a few more steps like android phone. Cant go wrong either way you go. I have the hds 7 touch w structure scan. Love it!!!!! Good luck with your purchase! !!

Get a Lowrance (HDS Series) with the Standard Mapping E-Cards.

I like my lowrance touch way better than my old hds. Its way quicker to navigate menus and settings

I couldn't get the standard map to show on my hds 7 touch. Charts option. The only place is show showed up on was when I click on steering icon. Charts wouldn't show it....

what setting should it be on for chart page to display standard map info

Mines not a touch, but to make mine show I just turned the "shaded relief" on.

Love standard map.
