I was reading up on them last night. The hens look identical to a wood duck hen.

probably just some captives that got loose or set free. I had looked into them because I wanted some because they were so pretty but they were really expensive. they are a couple hundred for a pair

Apparently they have a few isolated feral populations that escaped from captivity. They are one of the few alien waterfowl that can live and adapt in North America. The bulk of them are In Northern California. Got that all via wiki last night.

Its a little over half way down, i would say about 8 miles down or so.. its on gravel section

Cool...Im almost to the end...13.5 miles down. Need to find me a lease out there somewhere...the neighbors close by dont really do much duck huntin. That is a badazz lookin duck for sure.
