Meaning of Chackbay?
Anybody know the meaning of the small town Chackbay? Doing some research and found out bay means the place of, and I'm trying to figure out what Chack means. I believe that Chack could mean "Cheg" in an Indian language, but not sure what it translates to in English. Anyone familiar with Chackbay's translation?

My Uncle wrote an extensive history book on St. James Parish and some history on the sounding areas is included. Which should include Chackbay...... I'll see if I can find something in the book.
If you go from Haitian Creole which is close to French Creole spoken around here it means "a landing" |
Thanks guys

Ok. All I could get is that it had Native American roots and it's something to do with being next to something and close to some bayou. Sorry. I've been asking everyone and no one really knows.

I live 15 minutes away. There is Lake Beouff close by, which everyone calls "The Bay"… Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
