Bigchaf and our hunting partner got there late and had a limit in an hour. Done by 8:30. Limited of dark geese consisted of 3 specks and 3 Canadians. First Canadians of the season. Good job guys.

Those are cacklers. True Lesser Canada geese are bigger than a specklebelly.

I never even heard of a cackler. I always assumed they were lessers because they were small. Guess I need to do some internet searching.

It's my understanding cacklers are a separate species. Richardson's are a cackler. The main way to tell tell them apart is the beak. They have a short stubby beak like a Ross goose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Excuse my ignorance of Canadian Goose subspecies, I have hunted geese all my life and thought there was only lesser or greater Canadians ( mostly lesser's) in our flyway, I now stand educated, so for this thread I guess I have 3 dead cacklers or whatever, they were lucky all 15 did not bite the dust, still would have replaced them with specs if possible or to be legal would have rather killed 1 more spec and let those cacklers go on their merry way.
