salt water charters

Hi! My name is Jess and I tournament fished in AZ for a lot of years...have my own bassboat and all :) . I just moved here and was wondering how to learn the ropes on a salt water charter. I have always wanted to do this! I live in Slidell. Any info would be awesome!

Better advice: learn to fish somewhere other than LakePonchartrain and surrounding area. Hopedale/Delacroix is much more consistent and pretty close to Slidell.

That too, Lake P will bust your butt and is hard to learn.

You can also do some freshwater fishing on the Pearl River which has some pretty good fishing.

i find people that bass fish alot have more success than average on the Lake P bridges. Just dont set the hook as hard. Hopedale is also a good choice. This time of year chalmette/ bayou bienvenue. My next suggestion is sell your bass boat and get a bay boat, long runs in choppy water is way more fun in a bay boat

Welcome to the state and site, if you like to bass fish you are going to really really like saltwater fishing and you may never bass fish again? Fixed it!

Thank you for all the info! I think I might keep my boat and save up for a bay boat. I am hoping that I find some fishing buddies out here like in AZ that will show me the salt water ropes. My goal is to work on a charter one day :)

You mean offshore or inshore? Inshore guides dont have deckhands, but if you can learn an area pretty well sometimes you can get on with a charter company to start making a name for yourself. You have to supply your own boat usually. Most guides run 22-24ft bay boats so they can fish 3-4 sports Offshore go to Venice, Grand Isle, or Cocodrie.
