backyard reneck fun with my boy

My boy told me he wanted to learn to use a baitcasting reel so I grabbed a rig from the shed for him. I tied on a 3/8 oz sinker and added a small orange cork so he could see were it landed. After a few minutes and birdnests he had a pretty good feel for it. Time for some accuracy now. I got a 5gln bucket and put it upside down in the yard and told him to hit it. Thats exactly how I learned to do it. Admittedly I needed the practice so I rigged up another rod and we made a game of it. If ya hit the bucket you got to call the next cast. He really got better in a hurry and we had a blast together. We would rag each other when we blew a cast and congradulate each other when we drilled it. It was some good fun with my boy. He's a baitcast man now.

He learned something new and had fun. I think as parents we sometimems get a lil frustrated when we teach our kids new things. I know im guilty of it. When that happens they get nervous and maybe a bit intimidated. That makes learning more difficult. Making a light hearted game out of things keeps dad relaxed which keeps them relaxed. They learn faster without feeling any pressure. Just my personal experience as a dad.

That reminds me of how my dad taught me to cast in the back yard. Well done. Thats the way to pass it too the next generation of sportsman

Thats how I learned and its a great way for any experience guy to keep his accuracy. I haven't been a bass fisher in several years so the practice session was great. Its even more fun when the neighbors want to know what the hell ya doin.lol
