Rifle for wife
 

Looking at getting my wife a hunting rifle. She has a bad habit of closing her eyes b.4 pulling the trigger when she fires my rifle (270wsm) because of the recoil . I think it scares/ hurts her. While in Africa she used a 243 that had a suppressor ... No issues , minimal recoil. So I figured I'd get her a tikka 243, but started looking at ballistics and noticed most 243 are 80-90 grain bullets and tend to drop like crazy on longer shots. So I started looking at tge 308 , much better. What is your thoughts?

You can usually find a .243 load that meets your terminal performance criteria and drops a lot less then the .308 with a similar BC bullet. If I was setting up a .243 for a family member, I'd set them up with a 1 in 8" twist barrel to shoot 105 grain bullets. Depending on barrel length, muzzle velocities can be 2900-3000 ft/s. BCs are available up to 0.500. Much flatter shooting at longer ranges than .308 Win which will often be below 2500 ft/s with BCs of 0.500.

If you love the Tikka and can't get in a high twist barrel, the .260 Rem is available with a 1 in 8" twist that will shoot 130-140 grain high BC bullets with less recoil than the .308 and awesome long range potential. My daughter wants to build a .260 Rem for her shooting.

.257 Roberts or 7mm08 would me my choices

I am not an expert but i would hold off on the .308 they are not women / child friendly from a recoil standpoint either... IMO.

243 or 7m 08.

Depends on your wife really. I love my 308. Recoil to me is great compared to my 270. I've never shot a 243 but comparing sizes, if she does great with that, I'd think a 308 would be fine. But I'm sure others here have shot both and can compare

Remington makes a Model 7 (same action as 700) they call the ladies gun because they are a bit shorter, very nice rifle and you can get them in a .243 and a few other rounds

7mm-08 in the most heavy bolt action you can find. you can also put a muzzle break on it that will also reduce the recoil.
the Tikka's are damn fine guns, but id stay away from the T3-light if recoil is a prob.
I should know I shoulder a 300WSM in a T3-light when I hunt out to 300yds or better.

Browning makes a great line of youth and women's models.

Look at the Benelli R1. You can find them in .308 they are great rifles, semi auto and hardly kick at all.

May sound crazy but I'd go with a AR-10. Has less recoil than a bolt action 308 and the stock will adjust with both of you. Plus quality 308 ammo is common at sporting good stores but she can practice with the milatary trash ammo.

Thought about that, only concern is the weight and her having to pack that in the woods

Pox, give me a call on this. I have a few ideas, some of which echo what has been said already. 7-08 is a great round with minimal recoil. I have several rifles that she can try out, if you guys would like.

I bought my wife a savage lady hunter in .308 and she loves it. She is 5'1" & 110 lbs. and the recoil doesn't bother her at all.

7mm-08 is an excellent low recoiling cartridge. Load a 140grn Nosler Accubond over 41grns of IMR 4895 and let the meat slaying begin.

The accubond bullets are bad to the bone!

I'm hooked on the federal vital shok trophy copper . After seeing what they did to those think skinned animals in Africa I'm sold
