Spare prop
 

Thinking about buying a spare prop for my 22ft pathfinder jack plate 2001 150hp Yamaha vmax . I have no idea where to start or which one any input?

What prop are you running now?

I would find a few props to test and use your old one as a back up. All props are NOT created equal..Especially with a jackplate.

If you are happy with the performance you getting with the prop you have, I would get that same prop as a spare.

I did not like how my original prop jumped on a plane with 4 guys in the boat so went with a quicker (deeper pitch) prop for a better jump with a full load. Love my new prop and keep my original prop as a spare.

I just called boat shops until I found one that had an older stainless steel prop with a hub to match my motor and I keep it in the deck of my boat. I don't need a fancy prop for a spare, I just want one that will get me back to the dock in case I spin the hub on my boat. I think mine cost me $80. It's not the prettiest but it will get me home.

I have no idea where to start looking it seem like this prop have a fast take off but top end is not much.

Look for numbers on your prop in between the blades. That will tell you the size and pitch. Then go from there

I your concerned about spinning the hub, it may have the Flo-Torq plastic hub. If it does, just carry a spare hub.

Yes it does have that plastic / rubber thing so any prop would do for a spare?

No, either a prop with the same type hub or a prop with the right spline pressed into it. I'd at least carry a spare hub for the one you have. Usually you can limp back with the pressed rubber hub. Not the case with the composite one. Once spun, it's done..

if you lose your prop a spare won't do you any good with out an extra thrust washer and prop nut and cotter pin and the other washer that goes with the prop, cause if a prop comes off that stuff usually comes off with it

if you damage your prop and need to swap it out on the water then you will want to replace it with one just like you have, so that your boat will run the same

if you spin your prop then you just need to swap out your Flo-Torq plastic hub, so you will only need an extra hub not just a spare prop

and of course you need to carry all of these to cover each issue

My boat came with a Mirage Plus and it must be worn because when I put on a Rev4 of the same pitch I gained speed all the way across the board. I now run 1:1 Which so great. So far my best MPG to date was 4.6 at 3300-3400 RPM running 33 mph.

buy the one that matches what you have now, most are right hand props which is considered standard rotation.

standing behind the motor and looking at the prop, turn the prop to the right and you can see the shape of the blades will push water back towards you if its right hand
