Took for ever to find an unlined barrel, but found two at the local service shop. Ran around town picking up supplies and started putting it together. Ended up taking a section off the second barrel to make a lid, which worked out and have plenty of extra room. I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story. Looking good.... I have built two of them and ended up trading them off for something else.

They make excellent smokers.... You will enjoy it.

Played a quick 9 this morning then decided to light it up. I ordered the Maverick ET-732 for temperature gauge, really excited about the wireless remote. Marinated some country style ribs in mustard and steens syrup then dusted them with dry rub before they went on. Got the temp right and went in to watch Bubba's victory lap at the masters. Slapped some of Church Points own Daigle's Sweet&Sour on before pulling them off. End result was knuckle lickin, melt in your mouth BBQ. Attachment 66141Attachment 66142

I'm addicted

Smoked chicken is awesome. I smoke several and vacuum pack the whole bird.

If you need to impress your lady, get some Carnish hens and hit them with a nice applewood smoke.

Thanks for sharing your build.

Looks nice man! I have 3 drums in the shed that I need to find time to build. Where did you get your build specs from?

tim3516 04-14-2014 09:54 PM

Looks great! Many idea where I could get a barrel?

Vermillionaire 04-14-2014 10:01 PM

Thanks guys. I used howtobbqright.com's plans as a guide. I thought he spent more money than he needed too so I made a few changes. Since you have the drums you can get everything else you need at a scrap yard and Lowes. It took a little hunting to find out most place don't handle black metal.

You can buy them brand new at C&G containers in Lafayette for $100. I got these two for free when I brought my truck in for an oil change.

Looks good!

Like that beer mug too!

legit

use black iron pipe and raise your valves up to waist level. Makes it much easier than having to get on the ground to adjust valves

Matt G 04-17-2014 06:39 PM

Kind of like some stacks, eman? Just have the valve face straight up?
