Bay Shore Marsh Island 5-18

3 Attachment(s)
Headed out to the Pass at the crack of dawn only to find milk chocolate water everywhere. Wind was not blowing at all so I headed along the back side of marsh island towards the diamond reef. Wrong move, wind was blowing 20 mph 2 ft seas back there. Headed back to the slick calm waters of vbay and beat the banks hard around Lucien bayou to pick up our limit by noon. Tough day fishing we had to work for them today.

Not a single trout yet the water is still dirty in the reefs.

What boat were you fishing in? We were in that area too...caught some early, then bite did not pick up again until about 940 when the tide started to move around Bayou Michel.

19' fishmaster, the bite was very slow for us all morning but we kept pecking away at it

You passed me up in the Quintana yesterday, you didn't even look my way I was waving my hands. How did you do??

Looks like you

have some Kahle hooks on...do you prefer those over jigheads? Were you fishing with shrimp or cut mullet?

All I use is kahle hooks, never tried out a jig head. I couldn't tell you a difference if there is one. Some fish were caught on dead shrimp others on frozen cut mullet. The bigger reds were with the mullet.

I've heard a

lot of success stories on cut mullet, just never got around to trying it. Where do you normally cast net for mullet, and do you normally just cut the mullet in sections or is there a particular way of cutting it up?

alphaman 05-19-2014 10:23 PM

I caught mullet at the first weir in marsh island last weekend
