high rpm's

i took out my boat for memorial day for the first time in a few months.... boat ran/sounded fine... but for some reason my RPM gauge was going up to 7000? sometimes when i would accelerate it would go to the normal 5500, and others it would jump around? anyone know what i need to do?

thanks

sounds like a bad connection on the back of your tach. mine used to do the same thing.

like BassYakR said loose connection or possible gauge can be faulty some boats they have a female bullet connector on them that like to corrode over time

yep, mine was all over the place because it had corrosion in the connections.

you are just talking about the tach right? the motor is sounding steady and isn't sounding like its revving up and down correct?

there is also a "dial" on most tachs.......on the back.........move it a postion or two and return it to the original spot
