Bees!!!
 

I have a bee infestation in a wall of my home in Lafayette! They are entering between the wood trim and the brick and building a hive in the space between the brick and the OSB sheathing. I don't think they have been there for more than 5-7 days or so. Can anyone direct me to a beekeeper that may be able to help with the problem?

Friends had bees in the wall of their house. Beekeeper tried twice to get them out. After a month they finally had to call an exterminator. They didn't want to kill them, but after getting stung several times......

I know there is a bee keeper on Ridge Rd just past Fieldspan, but I don't know his number. He has removed bees from peoples home in the area.

Have you considered Turtleman or Billy the exterminator?

sorry to hear that, everything I have always read about honey bees in a house is anything touching the hive or honey must be completely removed and replaced or its an attractant that will draw the bees back to it. something like brick can be acid washed and pressure washed and painted over before closing back in since you cant realistically remove that.

something about phermons left behind that will make any passing bee want to alert the hive to come start up a new nest there, but I don't know the odds on how often this happens

good luck man. i fought the same thing for about a year but i was finally able to squash them with some talstar but it took several attempts. if you wanna kill them PM me and I can tell you what worked for me.

I was infested with bees in the walls of a rental house. I didn't want to kill um but it was a brick exterior and the bees were able to get into a dime size hole and started a hive in the walls. I plugged the hole myself and the next day I had bees all up the exterior wall. I didn't want some kid playing near by to get attacked by bees so I hired an exterminator and he killed the hive and the queen. He told me that he had to put chemical on the whole house or the bees would find another entry point and get to the hive. It cost me $550 but we never did remove anything from the interior of the walls and the bees have not returned. It's been over 3 years.

I had the same problem and called a friend who was a beekeeper. He came over with a can of bengal. Sprayed the entire can into the entrance. Done deal. If you are nervous do it at night.

Just hold your breath, they won't sting.... :eek:

After consultation with a former bee-keeper who suggested extermination (he uses Bengal, BTW) I started the process Saturday. My wife then let me know she has killed several bees in the cottage we have in our backyard. Guess what?!!! Yep, another hive behind a brick wall. Back to the store for more of the nuclear option. I'll let you know how it is going.:spineyes:

Sorry....video would be disappointing. I accessed the hives by drilling a series of small bore holes (1/8") through the inside walls and injecting spray insecticide. The sound was impressive when they woke-up:eek:!!! It looks like the hive on the house is knocked out of commission and I will hit again every week for a few weeks. The hive on the cottage did not appear to be killed completely but I will reassess in a couple of days. If a respray does not do the trick then I must be missing the hive and I will get a borescope through a larger hole to visually reconnoiter the situation....but still not a large enough hole where I can be attacked so alas, still not video worthy:D.

Hmmm.....Now there's a solution not mentioned on the LSUAg cooperative extension website!?!:eek: That might take care of the armadillo problem also.

ELebouef, I live just off the river near Academy.

I have thought about trying out bee keeping. Just not that way. Really sucks that you're having to kill them. Not that I blame you though. You gota do what you gota do. Honeybee populations are way down from years past.

I thought about letting them be(e) in the cottage but the wife is kinda funny 'bout that.
