Ultra Light Reds 7/4

4 Attachment(s)
Tried to go fly fishing on the 4th in dulac
They were not having it early. We saw a ton of reds but they all spooked really early or wouldn't eat. Finally about 10 they acted a little better.

1000 shimano 8#pp 6'8" ultra light castaway
Fun to catch 27" reds on you sac a lait rod.
My buddy did end up catching one on a fly. While I polled him around which is hard to get used to but at the end of the day I had it down.

Thank little live target shrimp looks awesome in the water. They can't stand it. That sheep even chased it 3 feet.

Looks like fun, light tackle is the way to go. I don't have a ultralight, use a light action castaway with a 2500 symetre.

Good job Clampy, poling looks a lot easier than it is, especially when the wind is blowing. I poled 2 buddies from out of state around for 3 days memorial day weekend and never left the poling platform. They tried to fish on their own the day after I left and called me about mid day saying "How in the **** do you manage to keep that boat straight in the wind?". They have a new appreciation for what I did for them for 3 days.

I was the same way. My first time fly fishing my buddy polled me all day and it looked easy so I thought "pfft I got that "
Started spinning in circles. I got the hang of it after about a hour but still had the occasional miss step.

It's like casting a fly rod, swinging a golf club or anything else, not really all that difficult, just requires a little practice. It's good to see new folks getting into fly fishing. To me there's no form of fishing more exciting than sight casting on the flats.
