Marsh Island 9-7

Not many boats on the water today, slick calm. Lots of rat reds, little catfish, and one keeper red...we were fishing close to Pavy's and ready to move when we got flagged down by a fellow boater. Gave Tim a long tow back to Quintana, a shackle broke, re rigged and got him back to land. Hope he got back to Baton Rouge safely.

Thanks for helping. Ive been on both sides of that rope! People laugh when they see the length and size of my anchor rope compared to the size of the boat, but you never know when you'll need it! Good Job

Not a problem. 24 years ago, in a canal off Bayou Cherami near Stephensville, my motor wouldn't start. I trolled for a few miles, then the battery died, changed batteries and trolled some more before someone finally slowed down and offered to help. At 16 years old I realized the value of helping other boaters in need. This was the first time I could return the favor.

Kudos rk3... I've been on both ends of that rope too.

You just never know.

What is a shackle?

Scankdog 09-08-2014 08:52 AM

kudos...been on both sides myself...

Alpha, I may have used the wrong word, but the swivel below the snap/clip at the terminal end of the line broke. I think it was a stainless steel piece.

alphaman 09-08-2014 10:10 AM

O ok. Your talking about something on your tow line. I though that was something on his boat

deepblue2 09-12-2014 06:55 PM

Appreciate the tow RK3

You saved my bacon!
BTW, the cause of the breakdown was a shredded blower belt on the optimax....warning to all you that have one to check its condition before you are on the end of a tow rope.
Thanks again for the tow.

Ride home

Deepblue2... I'm the guy that brought you to your camp.. We have all been in that situation before once or twice!
Nice meeting you!

deepblue2 09-13-2014 06:24 PM

Thanks again

Yea...almost forgot the great guy and his son that gave me a ride back to Delcambre to get my boat and trailer as I launched from my camp there.
Thanks so much.
If either of you would like a weekend in my Delcambre camp with your family, just let me know. It's private, but I do rent it out on occasion to good folks. No cost to either of you for helping me.

Deepblue2, happy to do it. We were wondering why you were putting a flag on a pvc pipe, but as we got closer, we figured it out. Since you all can see from my pic above, I have an Opti too and checked mine….will do so from now on before I leave the house.
