Gumbo Cookoff????

I asked this in the events forum but thought it may get better traction here.
Anyone up for some head to head gumbo competition? Doesn't have to be a huge event just some guys having fun on a Saturday. Could raise a little money for little angels too. Just a thought. Need in put from our big cooks and our organizer. Bluechip, Eman, and Southern151.
How many of y'all think this would be fun?

mr crab 09-18-2014 09:20 AM

I'll throw down. But it'll have to be after deer season. I'll fly the pilgrim flag proud

SigNate 09-18-2014 10:29 AM

So what you're asking is "Would I come and show you how to make gumbo? " Lol....... Just thought I'd start the trash talking early. Lol.......
Seriously, sounds like a good idea! Of course the date would be the most difficult thing to figure out.
How many people you think would attend?
Minimum amount of gumbo?
Our K of C gumbo cook-off requires a 3 gal. min.
Any kind? Chicken, turkey, seafood?
Everyone bring his own rice?
Where would it be held?
Cook on site or cook at home and bring out?

Pretty much what I was saying.lol
Just a thought at this point and seeing how many else think it would be fun. My thought was something less formal. Just some guys throwing down and having some fun. Maybe someone has or knows someone with a business and let us set up there? I was thinking a fowl gumbo (chicken, duck, or combo of each) and has to be made on site. Veggies and meats can be cut up before hand but that's it. Looking for ideas from anyone interested. Hell i don't care if we cook for nothing more than bragging rights and maybe a lil sc cash. If we get ten guys to cook and pay a $20 entry fee that's $200 we could give an organization. That's if we don't sell any gumbo. Looking for ideas from anyone.

I'm. Ready. Are ya'll?

Bluechip 09-18-2014 12:35 PM

Depends on the date with me.

I think it would be fun. And I'm not beyond paying my $20, boiling a pot of water, drinking a few beers and eating y'all's gumbo when ready lol....

Sometimes I cook for so many charity events and benefits that I get burnt out but I'm willing to throw in a $20 and come eat....

SigNate 09-18-2014 12:38 PM

yeah, the date would be the determining factor for me. Heading out of town in October and lots of other stuff going on.

duckman1911 09-18-2014 12:40 PM

Just saw on Facebook that little angels has a cookoff on October 26. Could sign up for that and cook. Three catagories. $10 entry fee. Really thinking about doing that. Have to cook for 50 people.

duckman1911 09-18-2014 12:44 PM

February. It's cold, wet, and hunting season is closed. Perfect gumbo weather too. SigNate is not allowed to cook a gumbo until then. Errbody else start practicing.lol

Of this I have no doubt. I can be dead last and be ok with that. A day of hanging out, having a few cold ones, and F'ing around and im good. Would gladly do it at our shop but I don't think Aleaxandria is a reasonable drive for most.
