etec problem

2007 115 hp etec with 130 hours. Engine died while idling at the dock and died suddenly. Would not restart but would turn over and spit as if a fuel flow problem. When the key is turned on the hp pump starts and stops at 1-2 second intervals. Another tech that I believe is with BRP suggested that the EMM has failed. These cost $1500.00 plus labor. Anyone else had any problems such as this?

Not sure about the 115hp or the older models, but my EMM is directly on top of my outboard and looks like it could be unbolted and swapped right out...(from the best of my memory). The only bad things i've heard about Etecs seem to be the older models...I love my 25...Good luck I hope you get it all worked out

My boat is in Cameron Parish. Lake Area Marine is the closest dealer. Otherwise I would be pulling to Alexandria. How is the waiting line at Lake Area Marine? Worse case, if I need a EMM replaced what is the cost?

i would just have them verify that the EMM is the problem and have get you one... or source it cheaper online... then install it yourself... save you a few hundos

I have had fuel pump problems after fuel pump problems. They would get replaced and burn up after a few trips out. Then after calls to BRP to try get things figure out and multiple parts change we found what I hope was the problem. It was the e.m.m. sending to much current to the fuel pump and fuel injection.
While on the phone with BRP I shot a video and sent it to them. They made the decision to change the e.m.m.
This is what happen that morning! BRP made a call to a dealer in Beaumont and told me to bring my boat in as soon as possible.
I pulled in to the dealer they did a download of the e.m.m. and sent it to BRP . BRP built the e.m.m. that day and put it on a plane that day heading south. The next day I got the call around 2. My boat was ready!
When I was having trouble with the motor all I wanted to do was get away from it. But the customer service is stand alone top notch. If you need BRP number just send me a p.m.
P.s. you can't just buy a new e.m.m. it is custom for your motor and the will have to do a down load and build one.

Glad to hear that BRP stood behind you. I have a 150 Etec that has been flawless (so far) with about 150 hrs. on it now.

Taking it to Bearmont Thursday morn. I have a service manual and understand that the emm has to be set for the motor. I believe that BRP will work with me on this. They have a very good track record so far on customer service. I love the motor and can be seen quite frequently around J's H. The more I read in the service manual the more I appreciate an etec. Great performing engine. Have anyone out there read up on the operation of what etec calls their exhaust valve? I think this may only be on the 4 cyl. engines. I am not sure of this though.

Lake Area Marine and BRP have taken care of me very well in the past, I've only had one issue with my motor and it was resolved with no hassle very quickly, and last year I had my axle on my trailer replaced free (even though it was out of warranty). These guys are very knowledgeable and helpful...

How backed up are the folks at lake area. How quick can they typically get to you.

Call them up and ask they will let you know...being its almost winter season they probably arent backed up much if any..
