Well with the cool/cold front starting to arrive in south la! The trout should be on a steady move into the bay as these fronts continue. October should be good on the inside and outside.

What's your fall prediction?

I think on this side of the world (Dularge to Poin au chean) the transition will be later than usual, everything else this year has been late. I think it will be a good fall but an excellent winter.

My guess would be the first week of November

Montauk17 09-23-2014 10:37 AM

Won't be long

Speck-killer 09-23-2014 10:41 AM

I caught about 30 small trout in the pass last week and all were female. Means they're moving in to spawn. Won't be too long now.

Don't they spawn in may/June in passes around full moons ?

That was my assumption also

Some people assume that they make beds and guard eggs like Bass. That's y they hate croakers

Grew up in baldwin,la. 20 minutes from the point, and never seen the fish staging this late. First week in dec. the bay should be dynamite, everything about a month behind.

Trout are batch spawners; they spawn as a group every full moon once the water gets over a certain temapature (72 degrees, I believe).

Speckled trout spawning activity depends on environmental factors such as currents, salinity and temperature. Most spawning activity seems to take place in salinities of 17-35 parts per thousand (ppt). Full strength seawater is 35 ppt. The two most important factors that determine when speckled trout spawn are water temperature and day length. Egg development begins to take place as days become longer in spring. Water temperatures of 68°F seem to trigger spawning, which continues as water temperature increases. Peak spawning takes place between 77°F and 86EF. The cycle of the moon also seems to affect spawning, with spawning peaks occurring on or near the full moons of the spring and summer months. Females may spawn every 7 to 14 days during the April to September spawning period.
