Bass around LC

Going to be spending the day in LC. My dads in ICU and with the visiting schedule only 30 mins at a time, have several hours in between visits. Figured I could pull my boat and fish locally for a few hours. Any suggestions ? I've never fished around this area. Don't need honey holes, just boat launches close to town. Thanks

Hope things work out for your Dad ... Lots of bass options, White Oak Park and the Saltwater Barrier launch would be quickest and easy for you .

What hospital is he at? I figure you want to fish pretty close to where he is. There is the calcasieu river and English bayou which are north of lake Charles. There are a few different public places to launch. One under the I-10 bridge, one in Westlake off Smith Ferry Road, one at the Saltwater barrier in Westlake, one on Fitzenreider Road in north Lake Charles, one at White Oak Park in Moss Bluff. One on N Goodman Road on the English Bayou. There are also a few bayous south of lake charles that hold bass and have launches. End of Nelson Road has a launch into Black bayou. Gulf Hwy has 2 launches on the sides of the road out past the airport.

I would suggest launching at the Saltwater Barrier and fishing in that area and north up West Fork. It's pretty close to Lake Charles and you have the chance at a mixed bag, plus the launch is decent and you won't have to worry about anyone messing with your stuff. Some of the other launches listed are a little rougher, launch wise and area wise.

Closest to town will be the saltwater barrier off of Mims road in Westlake ..... Lots of good fishing for reds and specks south of barrier and bass north of barrier ......

Hes at LC Memorial. I was looking at google maps and found on the south side by 210 bridge there are 2 launches. Prien Lake Park and another right at the bridge. Would that be a safe place to park and fish ? Bad company ? Looks like a lot of docks and a bayou to get back into and flip some jigs. Thanks for the help fellas.

Prien park is good. The other is closed. Mucho construction. But that area I all salt water so flipping jigs on those docks won't produce many bass. lol But there is some good speck fishing not far from there if you're looking to expand your horizons a little.

Heck, I don't even own any saltwater gear. I'm pure freshwater from the backwoods. Grew up on the Calcasieu in Kinder and Indian Village. Thanks guys

There is a boat launch at the end of Nelson Rd. Brackish, don't be surprised if you hook onto a red!

Is there a launch at the bridge where 171 crosses the river ?

Jasonf 11-21-2014 09:49 AM

Not at the bridge itself but just a little east. There is a launch on old hwy 171 on the north side of the English bayou and one on the North side of the Calcasieu, but the one on the calcasieu is closed for repairs I think.

Thanks guys, think I'll head over to the white oak park and fish from there.

IMO..... that might be your best location come from the LCM hospital.

That English bayou launch is not that good. The ramp has some major hole under the water. If you launch there, back in really slow and keep your trailer to the west close to the sign. The "ramp" is not quite as bad there.

The launch at the I-10 bridge [N/E side] has a big drop-off at the end of the concrete. It use to not drop off to much if you backed in next to the north side.
