Aluminum floor thickness
 

Getting ready to set up a 1648 alweld. Prefer to use aluminum for the floor and plan on placing closed cell foam board between the ribs for support and floatation. Since this foam will offer support, would. 080 aluminum be thick enough? What's your thoughts?

definitely wouldn't go less then 100 and rivet it in place so its easy to remove in case you ever hit something and need to patch the hull

.080 would be oaky since you have foam board underneath it..... with that said, if you going with diamond plate aluminum it comes in .063, .125, .188 and .250 inches thick. I'd go with the .125 on that. It only weighs 1.9 pounds per sq ft. if you covering a 4'x6' area that's less than 50#s.

.080 is plenty imo

Thanks for the info guys. I've heard arguments of all thicknesses. 080 seems to be a fairly common thickness when you're using a foam backing. Figure since I'll be removing the foam from under the rear seat, this would give some added flotation plus help reduce noise.
