Flat boat with 20 inch tansom
 

Friend bought a closeout alum. flat boat with a 20 inch transom, the outboard he has is a 15 HP 15 inch shaft. I know there are a few options cutting the transom down which could lead to a tilt problem or other things, maybe a manual jack plate would work. Any ideas on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

That's not a good combination in my opinion. If it were reversed, then a jackplate would allow a long shaft on a 16' transom. If it's a tunnel hull then it may work with a short shaft motor and a set back jack plate.

I have a 15hp 4stroke 20" shaft been sitting in my shop taking up space.

how old is the motor and what kind of condition is it in?

I wouldn't cut the transom, its just not going to be as solid as you think you can make it again and changing the shaft and midsection on your motor might get pricey compared to the cost of the motor so maybe sell the motor and get a long shaft motor for the boat. if its a 14ft flat it would be better to have a 20hp or 25hp on it anyways

Thats why I mentioned the motor I have instead of cutting down his transom...its around 2010-2012..not real sure, bought it from a friend and never used it..waiting on the pull rope parts to come in...prolly less than 20hrs on it. Figured it might be something Specknations friend would be interested in instead of cutting his boat down.

Thanks, he has decided not to cut transom and is in the market for a 20 inch shaft outboard.
