2/9/15 Calcasieu River

New to the area and lookin for some decent bass fishing. I hit up the calcasieu today but no luck. Water was cold and very muddy! Any suggestions...not lookin for honey holes or anything just a few pointers! Thanks

I always have better luck on the sabine but there are guys on here that mop up on Calcasieu all the time.

The Calcasieu is a great place to fish and can be productive at times, right now the water is cold and jacked up and has been that way for some time ... Sabine is a good option, but is as muddy as the Calcasieu right now ...

Once we get a bit closer to Spring things will perk up :D ... With duck season over, its a good time to get out and run around scoping out potential areas ... There are several of us on the forum that fish it weekly ...

Thanks for the info! Guess I will stick to BL for the time being and head back to the river when it warms up.

Fish areas thourough, if your on a bank don't fish fast and bounce around, take your time, most of time water will be muddy, fish are often tight to cover out there

Everything that needs to be said Hydro covered it! It will get better but if you slow down and fish it hard you can still find a few fish. West Fork has always done the best for me.

Banks on main river produce fish sometimes, but my best luck on the river comes from coves, cuts, ditches etc....I try to stay off of the main river, unless I am working up-to a cut. A lot of the coves/bays have lots of structure and/or flats.

Good info from all....it is greatly appreciated! Every trip is a learning experience for sure. Hope to be out there again real soon.
