pole barn vs. metal building
 

I'm looking to build a 30'x50' shop and I wanted to get opinions from owners of both pole barns and metal buildings. I would like to hear the pros and cons of both. Thanks
FYI i'm calling a pole barn with building with the 6x6 wood posts in ground and roof trusses. The metal building has all metal frame with purlins, etc.

I have a large pole barn. No complaints. I park stuff under it and store hay there. It's open on both sides with walls on the north and south sides and a storage room.

Ive got 70x60 metal shop...with the type of work I do, I would never own a wood frame shop....For the simple fact that if I want something somewhere in it I can weld it to the frame...Ive got metal racks and I-beams for trolleys welded to the frame. But thats what I need for what I do.

I have a wood barn it serves its purpose.

I have a 30X50 metal shop on a slab. I like it because it is free span, no trusses. It has a 12 foot eave, with 3 on 12 pitch, and 2 12X12 roll ups on each end. Hook up boat to truck and park in shop, get everything ready night before, no fear of anyone stealing anything. In the morning, just drive out.

Inside from cement to ridge line is 14 feet high, lots of wide open space. Built shelves along each wall for storage, three shelves high. Also, all mowers, tillers, and other toys are safe and protected from the weather.

All shops/barns provide this but I went with the metal building for the free span.

I have a 30x50 metal bldg . . 12 ft roll up doors on each end . . 12x30 lean to on the front . . Shower/restroom . . Lockable tool room . . Love it . . Attachment 85188

I recently had my 30x60 finished up...it's a pole barn and I was wondering metal vs pole barn when I was shopping around, but I used a 30x60 nextdoor that is metal frame and my shop feels WAY bigger. I'll frame in the ceiling for storage above the rafters, which you can't do with metal frame. I can't wait to start building up the inside and get my electrical done...We broke it in last night with a crab boil/bonfire.

I'm shopping for mine and trying to weigh out options.

I did a 30x30 pole barn. Wish I would have put up all steel.

Bdub that is exactly what I'm looking for. Who did yours? Irockj5 why do u wish u had put up a metal building ?

Also, Bdub can u post a few pics of the roof trusses. I'd like to get an idea of how much storage there is up there.

How you come up with this statement "cant do with a metal building" I have plenty of friends with all metal with framed in two story sections in their shops...

Who is building your shop?

JLDSC my mistake...It is definitely possible, you would have to build a taller building to do so...What I was referring to is a metal building with the same wall height, no room in that case unless you went with a different roof pitch.

Ed I'll look and see if I have any pics, feeling too crappy to go take some right now...I can also show some pics of a similar metal building to compare wood vs metal if anyone needs.

Man would I like to fill that thing up with all my good junk.

Thanks for all of the responses. I've decided I'm going to build a pole barn. I can't pass up the price. Now i have to find someone to build it. ( I looked back and saw the threads concerning pole barns) LOL

And they don't have a truss every 3-4 feet with cross braces, in their "attic".
