five shrimp boats sink at CP?

I was talking to a bud tonight from N.I. who told me that with the ginormous winds we had recently, five boats trying to shrimp at the Point ended up getting swamped and sunk in the VB/CP area. Supposedly, all the hands were saved and they "only" lost their equipment and boats. Guess you gotta be glad about that part of it.

Anyone have anymore details?

it happens every few years, especially in the may season. got caught caught in one 15 or 20 years ago behind dry reef. threw the troll in the boat, headed to the point hammered down and felt like we were't moving the wind was so bad. if the trawl doors would of blew off the boat we were gonna sink fast.
that day there were 5 or 6 boats sunk, and all you saw was little boats headed for every bayou in marsh island or the pass. it went from a 1' chop out of the south to oh my God out of the north in just a couple minutes.

hope everybody is ok.

Wow It does get bad out there. I can remember one night years ago. I was on anchor by the warden camp. Storm came up and I was dragging anchor. Ended up dropping skimmers in water and running engine to stay off bank. Lots of boats were damaged that night.

I think that's Michael Phelps driving that boat so I'd say it that's the case then he's a pretty good swimmer and doesn't need a vest.

Looks more like Wayne Toups. He was probably on his way out to pick up a Columbian care package.
