Marsh Island Tide and wind
How does wind affect tide at southwest pass and south point. I've heard north wind is bad. east or west slows/speeds up the tide. not sure what south wind does. Your thoughts?
|
Depends on velocity of the wind. Higher south winds will increase incoming tide, could kill an outgoing tide. Light south is usually not a factor/ does not affect it.

Thanks Alphaman, was looking for current. Is this available to a sport fisherman?
|
What info are you looking for? Current as in water flow or time. i just looked on google earth and the date showing is 1-24-15
|
Alphaman, was looking for current water clarity, in order to not make a run to look at dirty water. Most of my trips are out of Burns Pt.

You really can't go by these pictures bc. It a 1 second picture in a 24 hour time period. But you can study what's going on the better guide you. Just my opinion.
In order to see what really happening you would have to look at 3 different sites to get an idea of what the water is doing. GO fishing and gather real information. then take these steps to: 1.http://tides.rodnreel.com/tides/sele...hp?state_id=22 -look at your tide charts for the area -Incoming tide brings in good water at times -Out going pulls dirty water out the marsh. So to say 2. USGS mobile water data site -look at salinity chart look for salinity spikes the look at your tide when and what time it spiked. How Strong how weak etc. - water levels compare 1 and 2 side by side. 3. Lsu modis or modis today site. -Look at the satalite Image of the area and the time time the picture was taken. -Then go back and look at 1 and 2 and see what the tide amd water flow was doing at that particular time. -This will give you and Idea of what's going on. Do this this after every trip to see What going on in your area |
Can always find fish, even if the water doesn't look so good. The fish that live there eat every day despite the conditions. Sometimes the salinity will shift them into other areas and if it's real fresh up top they will find a place that has a little salt on the bottom and eat shad and shrimp. Yes, they'll get pushed out of some areas by a ton of fresh, and may be closer to the passes or halfway between the passes and mid bay.
We've been catching a lot of trout this year over here in Texas under a totally fresh surface water. Fish have been on the bottom on mid bay reefs in 6-7feet. Sometimes the surface water has been ugly. Now trinity bay has been blown out and has been too fresh and for too long... those that are finding the fish right now are finding them very congregated and it's been an unbelievable year so far. Get out there and go find them, they are there. |
