Turners?

Have any Specs started to show up around turner or further north?

My grandfather fished yesterday and caught 1 redfish in turners. Said there's no sign of trout

Fished Turners Saturday for a bit. Caught an oyster and a buzz.

salt's just getting back in. make the run south and hit the weirs, jettis, lambert's reef.

a few of the rigs out of freshwater city have had some specs lately. if you can make that run.

I'm not a saltwater expert by any means. But I hardly noticed any bait last weekend in the lake or in the ship channel (keep in mind I probably fished some stupid places, mainly trying to get away from crowds). I understand the salinity is a big factor, but later that day we ran north to the fresh / salt barrier in Westlake and there was bait EVERYWHERE (I'm assuming the salinity is a good bit less here than in big lake). Not just pogie and mullet but bait skrimps too. Of course we had taken all the rods out and were joy riding at the time we saw all this. Which influences the fish more typically, salinity or bait availability?

Id say bait mostly... but just bc you cant see the bait.... doesnt mean its not there

Also be aware that different types of bait like different salinities. Also the age of the bait plays a big role in what type of salinity they prefer.

Good to know. Mostly pogie I saw up north but they were 3" plus for the most part I'd say. Skrimps were little though

only reason I mention the salt with turners is because its so far north and the river is still high. now that the salt's comin back more bait will come in which brings more fish. no doubt there are fish now, they're just spread out and take work to find em. since beginning of July when the biblical rains started the fishing's been tough. I've had plenty of days that I've used every bait/rig/pole/idea in my boat.... just gotta stick with it!

Thanx guys

The salinity in Turner's is about 23ppm right now, which is very high. Its the highest its been all year...

me1ancon 08-04-2015 09:21 AM

anyone fishing turner's soon or recently? is there anything happening? I saw a post about the weirs saying there wasn't much happening. trying to take off next weekend and try to put my dad on some fish.

I caught a ton of undersized trout in Prien on Sunday, so I'd think they'd be farther south as well. I didn't think I'd catch anything but dinks, then a 19.5" hit on a popping cork.

Fished Turners Friday evening. It sucked, just like it has all year. Bait was everwhere, but not a bite.

me1ancon 08-04-2015 01:58 PM
