Crab net question
So I want to take 3 kids crabbing. I plan on using just regular round crab nets baited with chicken necks and tied off to a dock in Hopedale. Only gonna be using 4 nets total just as a something else to do while the kids are fishing there. My question is this. In LDWF regs in one part it says no gear license is needed if using recreational nets and in another part it has a $20 license fee with a footnote that says nets can only be used in areas designated as freshwater. Can anyone tell me if a gear license is needed to recreational crab from on a dock? I have a freshwater/saltwater license. None of the kids need any license as the oldest is 9 yrs old.

It is my understanding you only need the license if you are using TRAPS. You should be fine. I have been checked several times using nets and never had any trouble.

You just need salt water fishing license or the five dollar hook and line license( at least use to be 5 bucks not sure on current price). You should be fine my dad uses those same type nets all the time and has never had any issue

You don't need any license at all to crab. Only when on a refuge or WMA. Then you follow whatever rules they have. |
