The Banana Spiders are Back!!
 

Saw my first banana spider web this morning can fall be far away??:) Here is the pictures and stories about them.

Some years I have seen them where there was web every 100 feet in the woods. That made it hard to walk, so I would carry a stick and hold it out in front of me to knock the webs down before I walked into them.

Thats what I usta do Gerald. specially when squirrel hunting, I was always looking up stead of ahead.

They are beautiful. Have a few around the house right now. Like y'all I try to not walk into them. I carry my shotgun in front to catch them. I put a radio antenna on the front rack of my four wheeler to catch them when I ride in the woods.

We got baby's up here now, not the hand size, but finger size, do yall have yellow jackets, red wasp, dirt doborrs, they kill the hell out of a brown big spictere??
They all suck but don't mind the nest and it wont mess with you, bananas can't hurt you, but can care you half to dead in the woods!!,

I also leave the wasps be. We have yellow jacket and red wasp nest in the yard and I just leave them be. They are pollinators, and since there aren't many honey bees around they help our garden and citrus trees.

Don't mind yellow jackets but those red wasps and me don't get along. If I get popped by one I swell like crazy and will have the mark for a few months. I do really enjoy watching my honey and bumble bees do their work early in the morning. They just move to the next flower and let you pick. Much like a yellow jacket when you are skinning squirells. Just move him to the side and give him a hide to chew on.

You can also use a bike flag as well. Zip tie it to the brush guard.

While walking down the fence squirting round-up at weeds I found another web the old fashioned way.......with ma forehead. :-(

Instant karate expert at that point. Been there done that. Don't mind spiders at all but there is just something creepy about running into their webs. Not that they will hurt you but just not knowing if it's on you and where on you. We have two wolf spiders that live on our patio. I swear they actually come visit us. They crawl all over us. Pretty little things.

The female banana spider is the largest non tarantula north amaercan spider. Their venom is nearly the same as a black widows venom but not as concentrated. A welp for a day and it's gone. Female banana spiders weigh 100 x more than males. Obviously size doesn't matter to them.lol

Could be. The only two spiders we have that are a concern don't build webs you will walk into. Although all are venomous to a point it isn't an issue as a general rule. Granted there is the possibility of an allergic reaction much like some people with bees. I got bit twice on my left bicep by what I assume is a spider. Other than itching and taking 2 months to heal there has been no real issue.

You ever see any tarantulas where you are. They are in your neck of the woods

Yeah but not often. Beautiful spiders. Haven't seen any in my yard but have seen them close to my house. I unfortunately got cursed with scorpions. They are no fun at all.

The only thing worse than walking into a spider web on the way to the deer stand is that wood co ck that jumps up just about the time you step on him.
