How and when trout spawn
 

When I fished mostly freshwater, I had no idea of how and when spec's spawned. I first learned about this in the very informative podcast that reported on the latest tagging and monitoring done on Big Lake. I believe Mathgeek was part of that project.

Anyway, here is another brief but informative description of the speckled trout, including spawning habits. This one is from the LSU Ag. center.

to say trout will stay in the same spot and don't migrate to other areas very often, it kinda flies in the face of the normal thinking that since trout will move inside or outside the marshes with the seasons, you would "think" they just randomly spread out to other areas and not just sit there and wait to return to the same areas they left
