Grand Isle January question

Going to Grand Isle in January. Not bringing the boat, just hang out with a buddy and our boys in a beach house. I know there is no chance for trout on the beach, but shouldn't bull reds be there? Not really going for fishing but bulls on the beach would be fun while grilling and beer.

LA beaches are almost always a good chance for bull reds. You need to be sure to get your baits into deeper water. A lot of beaches have a gentle slope which means it can be hard to cast far enough from shore. Last winter, we used chest waders to wade out and cast from the beaches. It can be a bit chilly to wade out without the waders in Jan, but we did it that way last Dec.

I've wanted to try it at night, but we usually go to Elmer's Island which closes at night. It should work well from a beach on Grand Isle proper.

Like MG says . I would load up the clan and drive to elmers isle. drive to the point at caminada pass and fish in the pass.
Get with me the week before you go and i can get you some up to date reports.
Some very good trout and red fishing along the sides of the road in the winter

I have seen people bring baits out with a Kayak and drop them off in deeper water. Usually something interesting comes up, a red, shark... or broken line. They will run a dozen rods and one yak with PVC rod holders. And they do just what you want to do, drink and have a fire going.

I usually have my best luck fishing on a guides boat... Eman, if you know where I can get trout and reds from the road, I am all ears... even though I am currently wondering where I am going to fit all the fish from today's trip. Shrimp/fish fry tomorrow to get some stuff out the freezer to rotate in some new.
