25hp Suzuki Prop question

I have a 3 cylinder 25hp Suzuki that I can't keep a prop on. I have ran 2 different props and as long as you take off pretty easy there's no issues but if you get on the gas from dead stop or moving slow it will twist the clutch out of prop, this has happened about 5 times and even different props.... anyone ever experienced an issue like this? it seems like motor is over torqueing (sp?) prop clutch.

I'm assuming your spinning the prop completely off the hub?

Only time it happen I was trying to run a Honda prop on my 25Nissan, the Honda prop is slightly longer than a Nissan. I ran the prop without the back up washer and the prop slid right off the hub past the lock nut.

Have you tried a larger back up washer?

no Its not spinning off, it's twisting the rubber clutch out of hub. I replaced nut, washer and spacer and it did same thing.

Ok, sorry can't help you there, I never spun a hub under normal operating conditions.

anyone maybe had this issue with a different motor?

Get a cleaver prop with no center clutch

papap 01-21-2016 08:58 AM

has to be something wrong with clutches.

or the pitch is just way too aggressive and the item designed to give just gives out.

if the pitch is right for the boat and the load then as mentioned, you need to get a prop with no center clutch

I know those Zukis have a lot of low end torque stock, but what have you done to the motor?

weedeater 01-21-2016 12:06 PM

Motor has had reeds, exhaust and maybe Fer other mods but nothing extreme and it's turning a 14 pitch if I remember correctly. It seems like it could stand more pitch as it will start slipping (not sure if that's correct term) at wide open. I am timportant sell the motor because I can't run it because I messed my back up but was trying to prop it to get it sold...... anyone looking for a awesome motor?

well since the engine has been tweaked for more power, the slipping might just be because you are putting way more torque HP to the prop then it can handle, basically spinning the tires of the rim, or in this case, spinning the prop out of the rubber hub.

going lower pitch will raise the rpms but it also reduces the needed torque applied to the hub to turn it, so that might be what is needed and just be careful not to over rev the engine

hope that makes sense

sure does and that kinda goes along with what I was thinking.... just hard to believe this motor puts out that much torque with so few mods..... now I just need to sell it so i can buy something with a console.

I think you would have to have an extreme amount of power to make the prop slip on the hub from a stop. Are these new props?

weedeater 01-23-2016 10:13 PM

there not new props but I had them torque tested last time and they passed test. I only have issue if I try to launch it in marsh so I am going to have one prop set up less pitch for marsh and other setup for speed

It does it also in the river also.
