Power pole question

Would an 8 foot be ideal for fishing in Biglake? Just a concern I have, because I don't have much clearance in my boat shed. I rather buy the 10 foot.

yeah, should be for the most part. I have 10 ft Talons, rarely do they ever indicate full extension

How are they working out for you no problems

I think they work great, the one problem I have had, is that I have 2 units on the back. At times when I use both units in a cross wind they get tweaked or bind when trying to retract and the boat twists them form the cross wind. I have to wait till the boat moves back into a natural pole position.

For this I have installed a selector switch, 1, 2, or both. Actually used a battery selector switch.

Captain Gannard, I experienced the same dilemma a couple of years ago. I thought 8 foot would be enough being that I had limited clearance in my garage for my boat. I owned the 8 footer for 1 day before upgrading to the 10 footer. I went out with the 8 footer and it wasn't holding me on a reef in Big Lake that I was sure it would hold on. I immediately upgraded. Since switching, I've been extremely satisfied with the 10 footer. It does everything I need it to do in Big Lake. I just lower it when I back my boat into my garage. I recommend the 10 footer if you can find a way to fit it in your boat shed.

I have measurable experience with both the 8 and 10 foot Power Poles. An 8 footer holds very well in 6-7 feet of water, whereas the 10 footer will hold strong in 8-9 feet of water. I've found that the 10 footer has noticeably more holding power over the 8 footer when the water is choppy.

Im not going to try to get you to change you mind on PP or Talons, but the Talons do have a folding option

Is it just a roll pin that you put in there?

No its an actual folding hinge with a lock and release almost the same as what lock a TM in place, notice the release leaver and locking pin. This hinge goes between the unit and the hard mount. It is an option to add this hinge

See that looks like a bolt or pin holding it up? That's where I'd worry about the saltwater getting or it just wearing down over time!
