Platinum homes. Built ours in under 6 months. No surprise upcharges at the end. Very straight forward. A good team. Husband runs day to day construction and wife is actually is an interior decorator so very helpful in color flooring etc decisions.

Mikes Quality homes did ours.... Very pleased with it. All of his subs have been with him for 20+ years and ALL are American!

Try to stay away from contractor who employ hispanic crews.. My son had nothing but trouble with them.. They did very poor work.. Ask for references, and call them.

Same here. That's who built my house and I'd hire them to build another in a heartbeat. Everything is very customized and a change order is created every time you make changes. They let you know the price difference whether to your advantage or theirs.

bob as you know i build custom homes , when you select a builder id be more than happy to help you prepare a list of specifications/ pricing guidelines to give to the contractor so he knows quality and level of finish you are expecting and he can include that in his price. it sucks having to hear the ole " sorry i didnt know you wanted that" or "we only included..... in our price , thats gonna cost more" . main thing i can tell you is do your research like you are doing now , ask for references and call them / go see their work , not just completed projects but projects that are under construction .it is good to call around to local supply houses and see if the builder pays his bills in a timely manner, last thing u want is a lien. If the job sites are messy , and there is $hit everywhere un organized thats usually a pretty good sign of how he runs his business.
i can tell you that im confident any customer ive ever built for would re hire me to build their next house and many have hired me to do projects later , with that being said id call the guy who multiple people who commented on here about using the same builder a second time

slow is not a bad thing if they are slow because they are doing it right.

I agree, but 3 months is way different than a year behind

fishinpox 03-24-2016 09:20 PM

As long as they have a schedule ( that u are cool with length) and stick to it.
Obviously rain etC

I don't give a timeline that I can't stick to , with that being said almost all delays on our projects are homeowner driven ( can't make decisions, changes, ...)

Part of our timeline is when the client needs to start making certain selections and give them plenty time . I hear horror stories of builders calling client and saying I need paint colors by noon tomorrow .

Bottom line it comes down to organization, communication and quality .
