Input/advice needed

Hey folks,
I've got a trip coming up to the end of this month (May) and planning to fish the point a la hatch and delacroix areas. I'm hoping for a little input from those that have first hand knowledge.
We have the options of bringing a center console with an outboard that is JET drive. Is the grass in this area bad? If it's surface grass or within about 1-2 foot of the surface this thing sucks it up bad and you can't go anywhere. However, on hard bottom it will run in a couple of inches of water as long as there's no grass.
Second option is a 1852 mudboat with a mud motor on it. Doesn't handle rough/open water as well, but will run in any grass/mud.
Any advice on which would be more appropriate or does it matter?
Also if anybody has an tactic recommendations I would appreciate that. Prefer fishing with artificials for trout and reds, but will resort to live/corks if necessary. I appreciate any help in advance!

Dannnng. Can't nobody tell me if there's too much grass for a jet boat to suck up?
