holly beach rip currents????

Anyone experience or hear of strong rip tides on holly beach? I myself never have but after seeing last week the huge amount of sand and no bars in surf made me wonder, then a guy in a camp next to mine said several years ago he caught caught in one and it carried him all the way to Apache!

May be true...if he had a case of beer in that innertube he was floating in!

Not to worry....go fish.

Don't think I've ever heard of that in the gulf...but try a tube on the east coast of FL and you could end up in Bermuda.

Sand build up probably is from the strong south winds. There can be a decent side shore current with the right wind and tide conditions. I wouldn't call it a rip current... Go fish.

Dry Parish!!!

Just kidding. There are bars but very slight. I think it is related to the very gradual slope of the beach/nearshore bottom.

Come on...don't tell me you didn't catch and eat a choupique or gaspergoo or two when your buddies weren't watching!?!;)

It's like riding a Moped...it's fun while you are doing it but you don't want your friends to find out.

LOL... Dry County.. that was good. Made me spew coffee on the keyboard.

Why no bars... the rocks alter the typical flow pattern.

(left side of photo)
increased flow between the rock groins and reduced flow behind them allowing sand to fall out in reduced flow.

(right side photo)
If you look on the right side of the photo past the rocks, the guts and bars start again.

fishhawk 06-27-2016 10:37 AM

thank-you....I understand why rocks would disrupt sand bars, but I'm referring to the are in front of holly beach all the way to the ferry.
