Need advice

Ok guys, as most of you know I bought my wife her own Billiystix custom rod for Christmas. I need help in choosing the right spinning reel for her, but I'm no spinning reel expert. I would like to get her a Shimano, but don't want to break the bank. It would have to be something that would hold up for reds and specks, but also something she can use for fresh water also. Oh, the rod is 7 ft. Thanks

What price range are you looking at? I have the Saros 3000 and I really like it. I really only use it to throw poppin' corks, but it is my wife's primary reel. When I bought the Saros, it was the cheapest Shimano spinning reel that had the beveled edge on the spool. I forgot what the call this feature but I think it really helps let the line out smoothly. Now they added this feature to a bunch of their spinning reels, so if I had to do it again I would go with the Sahara.

I'd like to keep it somewhere around $200. If that's possible.

I got my brother in law a Stix spinning rod with a Shimano Stradic 3000.
It is a good combo.
The Stradic is less than $200. I think it is around $140.
But you can get some good spinning reels for a little cheaper.

Symetre 3000 for about $100 or Sedona 4000 for about $60. With 30# powerpro for reds and a mono leader for specs. Either way u can't go wrong.

just my two cents but ya cant beat a castaway rod as far as for price, action and durability.thats just me. ive never had anything but good things happen wif dem castaways

I have a Sahara and absolutely love it - think it was $80. The Stradic is fantastic, and Shimano recently came out with a Stradic CI4 that is the bomb!! CI4 is $200 and the regular stradic is about $170.
