Released this guy because we were not sure of the regs.
I think it is a rock hind grouper but have heard conflicting opinions of what it is.
Any thoughts?

Just going by what I found in my app regarding fish in the GOM. It's the only grouper that comes even close to the picture. Check it out.
In any event, a beautiful fish and what a meat haul on everything else. Truly a memorable trip. |

Pretty sure that's a Strawberry aka rock hind.. no minimum size limit... lovely fish! |
