Growing up in Port Barre my father and grand father tried to turn every thing into wine and the one they got from pears was among the best. The one thy made from figs was a dismal failure. I ahve fond memories of the pear wine I stole from da wash house.

What did you put besides sugar and yeast? I made some last year, and it didnt turn out to good. Drinkable, but not great.

My first time for pear . I make blackberry normally . I put about a third gallon crushed berries . 3 cups sugar . 1 packet Lalvin 71B-1122 yeast I get from wine makers toy store online. Fill with water to about 3 inches from top . Stick a balloon with a needle and put on top . When the balloon falls it's ready to strain and you can add sugar to taste . Instead of berries you can use 100 percent frozen grape juice , 2 cans to gallon . They have different flavors they sell to add to grape juice . The wine will clarify the longer it sits after straining . They also have a product you can add to keep it from refermenting after straining.
