Big Lake 11/17/2016

Seriously considering hitting big lake Friday morning for a few hours.

Weather guessers are calling for south winds, 10-15 mph.

What's my best bet with that south wind? West Cove?

Will report if I go (who am I kidding, I'm going whether it's a good idea or not). :)

I fished the north end of the lake yesterday evening and did ok. Fished the south this morning and it was pretty tuff.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the wind is already whipping pretty good at 10+ knots. Guess I'll need to make a last minute guess in the AM. 😀

Decided to go with what I know. Hit the water out a calcasieu point a little after 7am. There were probably 5 other trailers in the parking lot. Seems I wasn't the only one willing to roll the dice.

Passed up 2-3 boats fishing the north part of turner's. A few small flocks of birds here and there. Headed into the marsh to try my luck with some reds.

Beat the banks for an hour or so with only one small flounder in the box for my efforts. Decided to head back out into the lake and head south a bit.

The wind picked up around 9. Found a few decent sized flocks barely feeding in the winds around mid lake. Managed to pick up a few keeper specs and some dinks between the whitecaps. Was hard work as it felt like 10 minutes of positioning the boat for every 5 minutes of fishing.

Headed to the weirs to try to avoid the wind for a bit. Picked up a few rat reds. Knowing the wind was going to get worse later in the day, I headed back north to protected water.

Fished the old ship channel and LNG for a bit. Landed one puppy drum.

Off the water at 2:30 with one flounder and two specs in the box. When I left there was still probably less than a dozen trailers in the lot and nobody bank fishing.

I've done worse. 😀

Hey... you were't working... ;-) nice work. it's been warm and the lake is about a month behind in my opinion. It'll get better.
