Oysters!

2 Attachment(s)
I got a couple dozen oysters from my uncle who bought a sack over the weekend. My old man and I had raw oysters and cold beer on the tail gait for supper Monday night. I couldn't find my shucking knife so we had to improvise. A butter knife is a horrible tool for shucking. We eventually moved on to the chisels........ And no, we did not use the screw gun. It kept my little boy busy while we shucked the oysters!

Last night I saut?ed the dozen or so we had left with a little garlic butter and buttermilk.

Looks good!

I've had to use a screwdriver and a rubber mallet before when I couldn't find the oyster knives.

Just ate a bowl of chicken sausage and oyster gumbo. I like oysters but I don't like them fried. I'll eat them fried but if I have a choice I'm eating them raw or in a soup/gumbo.

My Dad and PawPaw made what they called an oyster salad. The would take finely chopped onion, ketchup, a little hot sauce and about 1 1/2 dozen raw oysters. They would eat that on saltines. I like them like that too.

I'm the same way swamp. Can't eat them fried at all. Raw his hands down my favorite and these were amazing. The cooked ones were sauteed for maybe 2 minutes so they weren't overlooked and hard.

Never enjoyed them very much fried either but last year I bought a sack for the family and had some left overs I shucked and saved for the next day. Didn't seem right eating them raw the next day like that so battered them with seasoning and crushed saltines and pan fried them. Best fried oysters I ever had. Can't wait to do that again..

My usual motto is if you cook an oyster, you're screwing up the taste, but dang, they look delicious in both pics.....

My favorite is duck and oyster gumbo, but dam that looks good!

i like to roll em in cornmeal, drop em in some very hot oil untill they just start to turn gold. they are still raw in the middle(sort of) with a nice crunchy outside. ever try rolling each one in 1/2 pc bacon, skewer with tooth pick, rolling in cornmeal and frying up as appitizers?
