Have a couple friends that are builders, they get with their plumbing guys & get all the cut-offs, cracked fittings in all different sizes & we build 'em all kind of contraptions & sink them. Baits wont get hung in them either.

I have built some craze looking contraptions myself. Once the cement dries I like to fill the rest of the bucket with pea gravle that way the fish fan the gravel and make a bed in it ! I also take plastic 85 gal drums and drill 1/2 to 1 inch holes all over it so the fingerlings have a place to hide out. They have a better chance at surviving !

Interesting stuff, I understand that the Poe's built a small reef in the middle of the lake. Each day they went out they dropped a bucket or two full of oyster shells. Before the storms, I had a couple of places where I had a dozen or so old crab pots that I crushed and wired together. I had a crab float on them but the storms moved them and tore my float off. I had caught some fish off of them but they were pretty snaggy. They would have been bad for waders but they were too deep. We could make a Salty oyster shell reef if we could agree on a location. I wouldn't recommend the crab pot method. It was just an experiment. What happened to the derelict crab pot program anyway?
