I am no electronic guru and dont have to have the latest and greatest tv but I want to buy one by the weekend and several people at my office have this tv and like it but I am just leary about a plasma tv. Best buy has the 50" Panasonic Viera 720p/600hz for $699. I dont want to spend a ton of money and from what I have researched this is a good price and most reviews I have read have been good. Anyone here have this TV? I know there are probably better tv's ont he market but this is in my price range just wanted a few opinions before I go and buy it. My living room is not very big so a 50"might be overkill but from what people have said even looking at this tv froma stong angle you can still get a quality view of the screen unlike some others.

panasonic has the best plasma tvs on the market, i just got the 42 inch viera 1080p, its a great tv. Mine was originally 2000.00 dollars, i got it on clearance cuz it didnt have a stand and it was last years model.

Plasmas are better for sports

Do you notice a big difference between the 1080p and 720p? Some people have told me they really did not notice much difference or at least not enough to justify the price difference but dont know how true that is.

If you have alot of windows in your living room stay away from the plasma, they are very bad with glare.

Pioneer used to be the best plasama but have stopped producing TVs...Panasonic is a close second if not right in line with Pioneers regular line.

I love my Pioneer plasma and always get compliments...no motion blur etc...

If you intend on watching Blu ray or high def cable then you want 1080p otherwise you will not see much differnece in 720 and 1080. Actually they say 720 is better for sports and fast moving objects.

Just remember, the smaller the TV the less difference 1080p vs. 720p will make. If you watch a lot of TV, I always heard to go with LCD as plasma has a burn-in/dimming concern.

If I were investing in a box today, I would save up or wait until I could afford an LED set at the highest kHz rate availalbe. You'll have that TV for about 20 years. It shouldn't be a short-sighted decision.

So the picture on the 720 wont be good on HD or Blue ray?

it will be good, just not 1080p. Just something to keep in mind.

No...if you viewing this tv from aprox 8 ft away you probably will not tell the difference b/t 1080 and 720.

The closer you get you will see more detail with a 1080p such as hair, skin blemishes, etc. The farther away you get you will not see that...the 720 will not put out as much detail but from far away it doesn't matter anyway!

Its in your price range, its a good quality plasma and you will be amazed at HD picture! Its right for you!

It will play Bluray and high def content (1080p) but it will be "scaled" down to 720p...you will lose some detail like I explained above. But if your not a picture "junkie" you probably couldn't tell the difference!

A plasma will also go out before a LCD or LED

Thanks. I am not a pic. Junkie at all my current tv is a 10 year old 27 inch Sony so it has to be better than that. I just dont want to spend $700 on a poor quality television. It does not have to be the latest and greatest just good quality that will last 5 years or so.

yea, if you keep your tv on 24 hours a day for 5 years, a plasma will go out before an LCD

yaks got it...you have to watch a butt load of TV and that is an average...may go longer!

I was just checking out the 32" vierra for my bedroom 399, think i'm going to gt it. Any thoughts one way or the other?

if your wanting a 50in tv go with 1080p smaller screens like a 32in or less if there is a price difference get the 720p, Plasmas use more energy, and you can burn an image in the screen if you keep an image on there too long. those LED tvs are sweet! energy cost is probably 1/3rd of plasma and LED does last a heck of a lot longer,

I got a Vizio 55" LED LCD 1080p 240 Hz...............I will never ever get anything less, this bish is bad azz

I got a dyvex for my bedroom for Christmas......its a 720.....TV in living room is a 50 1080p plasma. Pic is better in livingroom, but glare sucks!! HD boxes only produce 720 so its your call, but the glare thing is a problem with plasma.......I'd go LCD or led.......
