That's some pretty cool stuff! How long you think it'll be before we have real-time GPS receivers? Like the kind that'll actually show a picture of you.

We use a side scanning sonar on some of our ROV's and I can tell you that the image that you are getting with this Hummingbird is pretty impressive.

Does it take more than one transducer? Maybe one port and one starboard?

Cutty713 02-02-2010 01:54 PM

Just one but is must have a clear view and cannot be mounted inside of the boat. Mine is mounted on the bottom of my jack plate. I lose SI when on plane but wouldn't use it then anyway. When on plane I have the map screen with a little bit of down sonar. These 3 youtube vids really are worth your time to watch if your in the market for a new unit.

I can tell the difference between soft and reef bottoms about 40-50 yards out of each side of the boat.

Seeing fish...
Well IMO and after seeing both the hummingbird and Lowrance versions . Hands down Lowrance wins.
Pic is clearer, more options. Plus u have side scan and down view. And u can still see other views while running the imaging.
It's amazing and I can't wait to get it hooked up for the spring!
Breton sound and lake p are gonna b seen in a totally new way!!
Can't wait!!

Lmao!!
Amen! Dat power pro won't pop!
Gotta pop it at the flouro part.
And as far as throwin the cork and usin the side imaging... It's gonna b nice to see the depth and shape of rigs / structure so I can decide what type of set up( Carolina rig, tight line, slidin cork or free line)
more time fishin and less debating.....

Got a Lowrance HDS7 with side scan and down scan coming on the new Frontier. Can't wait to try it out. The Sherrifs office in Calcasieu has one that was bought with a grant a few years ago and it was 12 time more costly than the one I am getting. Anxious to compare it with theirs
