Have no weir redfish on the flats is here (1st Report)

This is my first report with you all, I just moved here from Panama City, FL to Bossier City (military) recently. Its a long way from the water but salt is in my blood after growing up in Hawaii. I look forward to meeting all of you and keep up the great fishing reports. And be nice to me alright ;) I am neither guide or fishing Capt, just a tournament angler that loves this sport.

Well, my friend Bucky and I made the drive from Bossier City early in the morning and was in the water by 0630am. We stayed in the Big Lake vicinity and within 5 mins of dropping the trolling motor we ended up catching this guy. He rolled on my black and chartreuse skitterwalk several times before backing off, then Bucky followed up with new penny gulp and drop it on his head. He took the bait and after about a min the fish was in the boat. Here it is.

We continued down the flat, with Bucky still armed with a new penny GULP! rigged weedless and me with my skitterwalk. This time 2 rolls from this was enough and he couldn't resist the lure the 3rd time and engulfed it. After a short fight he was boat side and netted by Bucky.

We worked this flat, following mullet and the redfish were sitting right under them for a stretch for about 300-400yds. The sun was starting to peek out slowly and the fish decided what they didn't want any of our offerings. So I switched things up and opt for a cajun thunder with "chicken on a chain" cocahoe minnow suspended beneath it. This was the ticket as they didnt want to bite any other colors. Here is another red that we boated after switching baits.

We kept drifting this flat and boated easily over 30 reds and 2 trout, with the size varying 18-30" for the reds and 20&22" for the trout. We got some good video of these all these fish we caught and after some editing I will try to get them up for you all to see hope here shortly.

awesome report and welcome to the site.

One question are the pics still up and I just can't see them or did you take them down?

Pole_benda 02-22-2010 02:27 PM

Thanks everyone... Like I mentioned above cant wait to get out there and meet all of you. Back in Florida on Floridasportsman.com new users buy the first round... I will be happy to continue that here. Also, I will do my best to keep reports coming good or bad, and willing to share any bit of information I find if it don't step on anyone's toes. I should be back down there shortly and then again in mid-march bring my pops down from Hawaii to fish this great fishery. Anyone got any good recommendations for a good place to stay at a reasonable price? We don't need anything nice just close proximity to the water as we will be fishing more than staying in the room. Obvisously rain or shine.

: The pics should still be up... I am still able to see them. Let me know if you need me to email them to you.
