Wished i could have made the tourney. But i think makeing the show was a good thing for SC. met a bunch of folks and invited a bunch to join us . Everyone from marina operators , guides ,okuma reps , hobie reps, trolling motor reps , power pole reps and a whole bunch of fishermen.
All in all , hopefully a produtive day.

yea, I got to meet Eman in person. Great to put a face with the name after all these years. Super nice guy. It was great meeting ya.

On another note, I was really disappointed in the show. All the booths that I wanted to visit weren't there. I only bought 2 things: shiney hiney shrimp and a marsh works shirt.
Now I'm excited about those two purchases and can't wait to use them but the rest of the show was a real disappointment to me. Not nearly as good as previous years. the fishing building was pretty full(not packed though like previous years) and the hunting building didn't have hardly nothing. It was maybe 1/2 full(they spread it out to look like more but still only 1/2 full). last year, both buildings were packed with stuff

Hey eman. It was nice meeting you today. We didn't get to put a booth in this show but we will have one next year. In fact our Bluewave Boat rep told us that they will make sure we have a booth at every show we want. This will also help SaltyCajun cause we advertise SC everywhere we go!

It was my pleasure to meet y'all today. Wish y'all would have been there this morning , I brought 10 lbs of boudin for our sponsors and marsh works was the only ones found .They raved about the stuff.
As for the show .
I have attended it since it was moved to lamar dixon and to me it has been pretty close to the same every year.
This year there were a few less of the big multi item dealers but more smaller set ups . last year there was a group from tejas that had some serious wading stuff .They weren't here this year.
marsh works has a prime spot just to the left when you enter the main door in A building.
i don't hunt anymore so was not really interested in those booths.
Duddley ,hybrid flurrys ,okuma, american rodsmiths who are allways there were there.
There is a couple that raffle off a REAL nice trailer bbq pit / smoker every year who is on the left b4 you go into A building $5 a chance .
All proceeds go to st. jude. If you can stop by and support the cause.
Seemed to be a few more booths that were promoting their own brands of bbq sauces and seasoning this year . I don't use salt and no one seems to make salt free seasonings . (to exspensive, as salt is usually 40 - 50 % of the container and cheap) so i don't stop at most of them.
Even showed up at the La, sportsman booth sporting my SC rag and there is no one there exsept salesman that is a contract subscription seller for the mag.
All in all for $2 parking and $8 entry ,It was worth my time and money even if just to meet a few new folks and some old friends and kill a windy day.

With your raffle luck...you should'a bought a ticket. :)

I did notice more smaller companies representing which was good. but I guess I was really disappointed because out of the 4-5 booths I planned on purchasing from and the main reason I went, none of them were there.

Yes i still have it and it fishes great!.
I was only there to win that raffle cause the fishing trip i'd won in a raffle had been canceled because of the storm.
Hope my karma holds out. Won't know till st judes bass tourney.

Wanted to talk with the guys from last year with the good heavy duty fish cleaning tables, the aluminum welders that were in the hunting building last year(been wanting a rod rocket set up for my truck, wanted one of the leather crocodile dundee hats for working around the camp. I also wanted to get some prices on some deer stands and possibly buying a feeder or at least get some design ideas.

Chad & I went Sunday morning 10-12 and didn't see you. We made several rounds in the Fishing Building looking for ya. We did get to see your brother and his family @ Chad's party the day before.
Chad was able to buy a Daiwa Cabo spinning reel dirt cheap from Bowie Outfitters ($25). A hell of a deal. I also got to see one of my former ball players that I coached @ Zachary High that worked for Bowie, also. Good to see him after all these years. It was nice to have my 4 yr old daughter with as she was able to persuade some freebies from some of the bait booths so daddy can try em out.

I spent all day saturday at the show and had to take care of stuff around the house sun. ( drinking and cooking). We have to get together this summer for a surf trip at the island.

When does the surf start turning on? I've never fished the surf on the island and want give it a shot,thanks.

The trout start turning on in the surf @ GI when the shrimp begin to migrate from the marsh and bays to the Gulf somewhere around the end of April. W/ the cold winter we've had, it may turn on a little later in May. I've caught trout in the surf as early as the 1st week in April. Another spot to try in early May is the Caminada Pass area around the Old Bridge and Rockpiles. Or try Barataria Pass area along the little oil structures. These are the "highways" to the Gulf. I like the Elmer's Island surf the best, but the far west and east sides of GI are great also. Fourchon beach is another option, but driving on the beach is now prohibited (that really sucks!!). It will limit your opty. to catch there. June through August produce good numbers. May and June can be good for the bigger trout. Live shrimp or croakers, tops, and plastics are your best bets as far as baits go. Chartreuse is best producer, along w/ clear, smoke, purple, or combo w/ chartreuse. Chrome and bone w/ the tops.

Better early than late to hit that 'spot'. I bet my brother and your brother have some secret spots they're not giving up either. It sucks that I can't fish their as much after losing the camp and moving west. I'm still tryin to figure out Galveston and Surfside surf in the summer, but I'm holdin my own and gettin better over the past few years.
