"Go to bait"

Well I was curious, what was y'all go to bait for red fish, NOT DEAD SHRIMP. I'm talking about plastics here. I will be fishing the New Orleans Big Bass City Park Redo this Saturday, and I was wondering what should I try first thing in the morning? Also to say you have to bank fish because it's one of those canals that run threw the city(Bayou St.John). Right now I have tied on is those new TTF lures that I got today, what would you suggest ?

P.S I know this is manly a west side crowd, but is any one else fishing this rodeo?

Ugh the park is, but towards the end of the canal(It goes into Lake "P") It gets brackish, && Last year they had a map of where all the reds where, because they all are tagged, and they all hung around then end of the canal(Saltest water)

Gulp swimming mullet chartruse or white. Not my favorite way to catch em but it almost always produces.

Haha, Have a few packs of those :p
That actually was my first idea, let them come to me,

But are y'all really fishing in the red fish division or bass?

Capt. Matt Caire 03-25-2010 09:12 PM

I dont know. Redfish... Been having my fill of bass fishing here by the house. Catouachie* (been here all my life and still dont know how to spell it) Its gonna be like finding a needle in a hay stack for that 1K fish. There is still reds in there from last year. I always wondered when they put them fish in there for this thing. Day of? Few days before?

idunno 03-25-2010 09:14 PM

I've been quite fond of the Reaction Bayou Chubs. LSU and Avacado/Chart are my go-to colors for redfish.

They put them in almost two years ago! And there still kicking.....

But last year the threw in some "non-tag" reds. So if you watch one of those you still win some $$$$

Not many people are fishing for reds so i'll see you out there, it will be me and a old man

:grinpimp:

I wonder if people go and work on them fish when the tourny is not on. Im not sure if we all gonna fish it. But imma def come out there and check it out. Will proly have my Grip N Rip shirt on. Look for me and say whats up. but if I had to throw one bait it would be a Gulp on a Marsh Works jighead and Poppin Cork. White swimming Mullet. I feel like no doubt that will have to catch some
