Chip, I know what you're going through, buddy. February 16, 2009 I had to put down our wire-haired Jack Russell. It ain't nuttin' nice. That day ranks pretty close to being the worst one of my life.

My four legged friend

Just remember that when a dog gets on up in age and their health starts to fail. that you are doing the right thing in passing them over the rainbow bridge.
My prayers go out to you and your friend.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Bob, I know you're right, but, every day since then I said, "I wish I had one more day". I've wondered many times in the past year if my decision was too hasty.

Red Devil 03-31-2010 07:31 PM

I feel your pain Chip. There is only one thing to do now. Get another one.

B-Stealth 03-31-2010 07:40 PM

He's now chasing cripples in doggy heaven and eating ribeyes for dinner. ;)

Asterisk-Rich 03-31-2010 09:02 PM

Sorry to hear that bro

Ray 03-31-2010 09:03 PM

I had to put down a 15 year old lab.
Someone stole a 12 year old lab.
Last one died at 10 years old, when I was at work.
My wife took him to the vet for a yearly and let them board him for a weekend
while she was out of town. He died of a genetic disorder. The vet's office took
care of everything, no charge, even for his annual check up and they sent some
money to a doggy site for a memorial for him. T-neg Duhon.
