I was hunting between WTR's house and mine and had a sweet little set up . I found out the one thing that's more important than food for keeping the deer around from season to season. Water and enough of it.
During the dry years the creek and the beaver ponds would dry up and the deer would cross the road to another tract of land that has a small river running thru it. The folks that have this tract also plant year round so once the deer went over there for water they didn't need to come back .
