We bought a front-load washer and dryer set a couple months ago. No problems with it at all. The washer runs longer than a top-load, but it spins the clothes until they are only barely damp, so our dryer only takes about 10 minutes where it used to take 30-45. If you leave the washer door open just a crack when not in use, or use the correct anti-mildew agent once a month in your laundry, you won't have any mildew. I paid $800 or so (would have been $50 less for electric dryer, but I wanted gas this time) for a good mid-range Whirlpool set I found on sale and am perfectly happy with them both. And I sold my 8 year old top-load set for $300, so I came out pretty good. The wife and our maid are both happy.
