I have the grease zerk in the axle as well. I find that buddy bearings can put pressure on the seal causing it blow. I use the metal caps with the removable rubber. As you pump in new grease, the old grease can be removed out of the metal cap through the hole created by the removable rubber piece.

Bingo. I hate bearing buddies. Most seal and bearing failures are because people think to just pum grease in a buddy and it is good. Those things are notorious for people blowing rear seals out
